VOLVO XC90? I am not able to find anything in the user manuals.

You should be able to check the inside of the flap to the gas tank, where you add gas. It should say the octane level you need. If it doesn't require premium, you shouldn't use it. It won't hurt the car to use premium, it'll just have no benefit. If it does require premium, using non-premium sometimes will be fine; you just might notice a slight lack of power.

Does it say premium required inside the gas filler door? Does it say premium required above the gas gauge? My Acura requires premium and it says so in both those places. If you care about your car, and you sound like you do, use good gas, Chevron is probably the best, and 76 is decent too, and I'd say shell would bring up thrid place. Chevron has the best additives hands down, and 76 tends to have one of the highest octane ratings.
